Food

For cheap eats in the Montreal area great spots to explore are up and down Saint-Laurent and Saint-Denis streets. Here are some places we really like that are close to the academic center:

lVua Sandwiches, 1579 St-Denis (Corner Maisonneuve)

Great and cheap Vietnamese Ban mi and traditional sandwiches. They also have sushi, bubble tea and desserts.

Frite Alors! 1710 St-Denis and 3497 St-Laurentheader_logo_frite-alors

Mostly a Burger and fries joint (including a good veggie burger). They also have a great variety of poutine and the gravy is vegetable based.

photoSushi 999, 405 Sherbrooke east.

Offers an all you can eat sushi buffet lunch for $15, we suggest you bring some friends.

Three Amigos, 1621 St-Denis

Cheap Mexican fare including fajita Wednesdays and $0.69 taco Sundays.

M4 Burritos, 1773 St-Denis

As the name suggests this is a burrito shop. Decent sized burrito for $8 will leave you full for a long while.

La Banquise, 994 Rachel East

They have every kind of poutine imaginable and it’s open 24hours.

Mmmmm, smoked meat –  Shwartz’s (3895 Saint-Laurent) or the Main (right across the street from Shwartz’s!): I personally prefer the Main and it is open till late but you can be the judge, go to both and let me know what you think!

If after your meal, you’re looking for something sweet, there’s Juliette & Chocolat down St. Denis. If you’re looking for a place to wind down and enjoy a nice cup of coffee, Le Cafe Des Chats, or the cat cafe, just around the corner from Sushi 999 is a great place to check out!
