Over the course of the last semester, we had an opportunity to participate in the Ubisoft Game Lab Competition. This contest was attended by 21 unique and talented teams from multiple universities. With the theme of Apart Together, we were challenged with creating an experience that brought people together while we were all apart during these difficult times. Our game had to be online multiplayer, include some form of integrated communication, and be simple to understand for people of all ages. This was a challenge, to say the least,, but what a rewarding experience this was!
Our team of 8 worked together intensively over the course of the semester to make a game that we were truly proud of. The team consisted of one producer, two designers, two programmers, three artists, and one sound designer, each heavily dedicated to and involved in the project. We truly wouldn’t be where we got without each and every one of them. Together, we decided on making an 8-player asymmetric party game called Escape from the Bodysnatcher.
Escape from the Bodysnatcher was outside of anything we had ever tried before, but we wanted to push ourselves with this competition. Everyone put countless hours into making this game. Looking back at it, we are all amazed at what we were able to accomplish in the short time we worked together. We had some issues at the start, but throughout this semester we grew closer as both developers and friends. This was our team’s most ambitious game to date, and we are extremely proud of how the game turned out. Through all this hard work, our game was nominated by Ubisoft for the Best Game Design award. It took the combined efforts of each and every team member to achieve this. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity and would like to congratulate the team and our mentors for all of their hard work this semester. We can’t wait to see what the future holds and hope to make a lot of great projects and games moving forward! Thank you all!
